The greatest benefit of serving in the Philadelphia Health Corps is the personal and professional growth and sense of accomplishment that results from helping others in very important ways. Members also receive valuable experience in the field of healthcare and get an opportunity to develop personal and professional networks that can last a lifetime.
Once enrolled, members receive comprehensive pre-service training followed by bi-weekly in-service training throughout the year. Member training is provided in the context of developing eleven core competencies and building capacity as future health care professionals.
In addition to self-satisfaction, experience, and training, members receive a living allowance of $11,800 annual gross (broken into 23 equal bi-weekly checks of $513.04 before taxes) and upon successful completion of service, a post-service education award of $5,350. The education award can be accessed for up to seven years following the program completion and may be used to pay back qualified student loans or for future education expenses. AmeriCorps members are also eligible for loan forbearance on qualified student loans while enrolled in the program. In addition, members receive funding for local transportation, health insurance and a childcare allowance (if eligible)
